Thailand and Switzerland signed the Treaty of Amity and Commerce in 1931, marking the beginning of our diplomatic relations. Since then, our bilateral relations have been cordial and close, with Their Majesties the Late King Rama VIII and the Late King Rama IX the Great spending their formative years in Lausanne, Switzerland, instilling positive images of Switzerland in the eyes of the Thai public. This contributes to other dimension of the relations, especially diplomacy, trade, investment, education, and people-to-people exchanges. At present, Switzerland has become the second largest trading partner of Thailand in Europe (second to Germany) and there are more than 150 Swiss companies investing and operating in Thailand.
